# 4.T.C.2: Authors, Speakers & Perspectives

Make connections between authors of texts, speakers in texts, varying perspectives, and the circumstances in which texts are produced.

## Expectations

- **4.T.C.2.a**: Compare and contrast the perspectives of different narrators or speakers in a text. (I)
- **4.T.C.2.b**: This progression begins in 6th grade.
- **4.T.C.2.c**: Identify the context in which a text is written (e.g., time period, individual, situational). (I)
- **4.T.C.2.d**: This progression begins in 6th grade.

- English Language Arts Grade 4 (EOG). Texts — Interpreting Texts. Context Students describe the influences of purpose and audience on texts. (about 10% of the test; 6 points; shared with other standards, so count these points once and never add them up per standard)

## What mastery looks like

Georgia's Achievement Level Descriptors. The levels are cumulative: each includes the ones before it. Proficient is on grade level.

- **Beginning**: Identify the perspective of a narrator or speaker in a text.
- **Developing**: Describe the perspective of a narrator or speaker in a text. Identify one way in which the author indicates the context in which a text is written.
- **Proficient**: Compare and contrast the perspectives of different narrators or speakers in a text. Identify more than one way in which the author indicates the context in which a text is written.
- **Distinguished**: Compare and contrast the perspectives of different narrators and speakers and support the comparison with text evidence. Identify and explain how the author indicates the context in which a text is written.
