Interpret and use language to craft engaging texts.

Apply understanding of characteristics of formal style (e.g., jargon, complete sentences) and informal style (e.g., contractions, slang, sentence fragments) appropriately when writing and speaking.
- **Distinguished**: Explain how figurative and connotative language choices contribute to meaning, mood, or tone in a text and support that determination with textual evidence. Use a variety of figurative language and literary devices throughout a text for intentional effects when creating texts to achieve specific purposes or appeal to the target audience.
