# A.GSR.3: Distance, Midpoint, and Area

Solve problems involving distance, midpoint, slope, area, and perimeter to model and explain real-life phenomena

## Expectations

- **A.GSR.3.1**: Solve real-life problems involving slope, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, area, and perimeter.
- **A.GSR.3.2**: Apply the distance formula, midpoint formula, and slope of line segments to solve real-world problems.

## Georgia Milestones coverage

- Algebra I (EOC). Geometric & Spatial Reasoning. Solve problems involving distance, midpoint, slope, area, and perimeter to model and explain real-life phenomena. (about 10% of the test; 6 points)

## What mastery looks like

Georgia's Achievement Level Descriptors. The levels are cumulative: each includes the ones before it. Proficient is on grade level.

- **Beginning**: Identify parallel and perpendicular lines within a geometric context.
- **Developing**: Find the slope, the distance between two points, and the midpoints of line segments in simple shapes on the coordinate plane within a geometric context.
- **Proficient**: Determine the areas and perimeters of parallelograms and triangles on the coordinate plane. Solve problems involving distances on the coordinate plane by applying the distance formula and/or the midpoint formula within a geometric context.
- **Distinguished**: Solve complex, multi-step problems involving distances, slopes, and properties of geometric figures plotted on coordinate grids.
